| We
got to Sturgis around 10:30 and were able to park on the main street.
We spent 3-4 hours walking the town and looking at event t-shirts
and bike stuff. Within 2 hours the streets were so packed that you
had to park many blocks or more away and the sidewalks were shoulder-to-shoulder
bikers from all walks of life. It got very hot and we had a lot of
fun. The more we walked around, the more we discovered. This is one
massive event that packs a fair size town plus every plot of dirt,
parking lot or town within miles. The experience was well worth the
effort to get here. We arrived at our KOA cabin by mid afternoon and
went for a swim to cool down, followed by a movie. The movie was good
but much to our surprise it was pouring when we got out. It was so
clear and hot when we left the KOA that we were in shorts and t-shirts
and had zero foul weather gear. As it turned out we waited a few minutes
and the rain stopped. We got home 95% dry and enjoyed a wonderful
lightening show before bed. Yea, I almost forgot. I was in such a
hurry to get home from the movie and avoid the rain that I forgot
I had put the wheel lock on the bike. As soon as we started to move,
the bike came to a sudden halt and it was all I could do to keep from
dropping it. A guy on a bike next to us came over and helped me upright
it and all was well, but very close to a disaster. |
