| The day was
planned for the main tourist sites including the Statue of Liberty,
Ellis island and the Empire State Building . All of these were great
and the latest addition of audio devices that walk you through self
guided tours really adds a ton of value to the experience. I must
admit that after yesterdays traffic experience I was convinced that
New Yorkers fully deserved their reputation of being a bunch of #%&@!^#’s.
Remember, I am a born native New Yorker so I can say that. In contrast,
after a day of not driving my opinion was completely different. The
people were all very friendly, helpful and as cordial as you could
hope for. We walked the financial district, ferried over to the islands
and walked most of the way from the Empire State Building to the site
of the Twin Towers and everyone was great. The funny thing is how
they deal with each other on the road. They are as rude, belligerent
and obnoxious as you can imagine. They fully block intersections and
keep those with the green light from making any progress until they
get in and they all but bump into each other trying to win the race.
The best part is the constant use of horns. They honk non-stop making
a ton of noise and nobody gives a damn. It is a totally useless act
of aggression and they don’t seem to care that it is as ineffective
as a whisper. In the end I decided that as long as you park your car
outside of Manhattan and take the ferry, train or subway to town everything
is great and you will have a wonderful experience of New York and
New Yorkers. |
