| We rolled
out of Whistler late this morning and headed towards a little town
named Lillooet. With a name like that I fully expected to see the
little people from the Wizard of Oz dancing in the streets. NOT. A
gorgeous ride but not the most compelling of towns. We had a good
lunch and made the call to push on to Cache Creek and depending on
our energy level we would decide if we wanted to push on to Kamloops.
Cache Creek was not the most compelling town for an overnight either
and the ride was like a mountain desert. Barron and somewhat dramatic.
More so I expect had the sun been exposed to provide some sort of
direct lighting. We stopped for a Dairy Queen treat and in spite of
the rain we pushed on to Kamloops. I was afraid I would not be able
to do a 4th of July celebration with Haley today but when we passed
through Cache Creek I noticed a sign that said "Fire Works".
I went in and the lady told me that she could not sell any after Canada
day but I could buy some in the next town of Savona. When we got there
they did have some for sale but could not tell me if I could shoot
them off in the town we planned to spend the night in, Kamloops. So
she called the police in Kamloops who transferred her to the fire
marshal who arranged for me to get a permit once I arrived in town.
So very helpful and so very cool. Haley was very excited! We shot
them off around 10:30 and only got yelled at once by some lady with
an attitude. We kindly agreed to stop as we walked across the street
to the local church parking lot and finished our private Independence
Day celebration. Oh, I almost forgot, we were visited by an American
icon today. A bald eagle was at the side of the road and as we approached,
it took flight and passed with in 10 feet of us. A very cool and inspiring
moment this 4th day of July. |
